seippel

The art historian Dr. Ralf-P. Seippel opened the gallery in Cologne in 1993. From that time until now, the focus has been on upcoming international contemporary art.

Since 1997, Dr. Ralf-P. Seippel has also been active in South Africa in the field of both art consulting as well as curating and organizing non-comercial exhibitions.

In 2007, Seippel Gallery Johannesburg was established, first situated in August House, Doornfontein, where we used the venue in close cooperation with ppp (private public partnership) project for workshops and seminars in the field of arts and culture.

From the end of 2009 until end of September 2011, Seippel Gallery Johannesburg was situated in a new exhibition space at Arts on Main in downtown Johannesburg.

Seippel Gallery Johannesburg is a spot for showing both upcoming South African and European contemporary art. From the very beginning, the focus has been on encouraging the cultural exchange between the two. Seippel Gallery often invites its artists from South Africa to show their work in Europe, as well as European artists to exhibit in South Africa, both in solo and group shows.

Also, numerous non-commercial exhibitions, workshops, and artist-in-residence programs have been organised together with, amongst others, NIROX Foundation, Mondriaan Foundation and noted museums.
